Proposal

For my A2 media coursework, I am going to create a music video, using a Pixie Lott song ‘it’s all about tonight’. I chose this song because once I heard it, I could immediately picture a good concept and narrative for the video and thought it would appeal to both genders of the audience. The main target audience which my music video would appeal to would be young females as it’s a female singer aged around 15-30 and many could possibly relate to the lyrics, but I also think it would appeal to some younger male audiences as again it is a female singer who they may find attractive.
My music video will mainly be shot at night-time at different locations, and I may also use green screen to get some close up shots of the main singer. I will be using only one person to perform the song, but will be using others to be dancing in the background. The song’s lyrics are about a girl trying to get over an ex boyfriend, by going out with her friends and having a good time, so I am going to try and portray this as best as I can in my own music video, by shooting up London with a group of people going out, and I may rent a hotel room for a day to do some shots of the girls getting ready together. I will also be using green screen by either creating background behind the performer, or to have lyrics on the screen when the chorus comes on.
I am planning to shoot at places in London like Hyde Park and Regents Park, at night-time, so will be bringing lights to help light the performer and surroundings well. It’s going to have a narrative of the main singer getting ready to go out, then following her on her journeys when out and about, having a good night.
I am going to be using props and different costumes to make my music video more interesting, things like focusing on a pair of shoes as this lyrics mention this a lot, and fitting the narrative with the song lyrics and I aim to use a variety of different shots and camera edits, like I may use some extreme close ups of the performers face, then use a long shot to show everyone else in the background.
To avoid any unnecessary complications I will create a storyboard and follow a plan of each different shot for my music video, as I believe I will work better with it being planned rather than shooting it all in one, I will also make a timetable as I will need to be travelling into London to shoot some of it, so by making sure I have enough time to do everything this will ensure it gets done properly. I also may have problems as shooting in London is a very public and busy place, but at night-time the parks shouldn’t be too busy, or I will have to plan my timings differently and work around this.
I would aim for my music video to appear on music channels like MTV, VIVA, KISS, The box, 4music ect, and for it to go viral on YouTube and through social networks, so that it can be seen by a even bigger audience and create more awareness for the singer.
