Diary entry 8

During this week, I have been drawing out rough plans and sketches for my music video storyboard, and have been coming up with ideas for my album CD cover, I will produce a few drafts that I'll post on here and hopefully come up with a good idea at the end

Proposal

For my A2 media coursework, I am going to create a music video, using a Pixie Lott song ‘it’s all about tonight’. I chose this song because once I heard it, I could immediately picture a good concept and narrative for the video and thought it would appeal to both genders of the audience. The main target audience which my music video would appeal to would be young females as it’s a female singer aged around 15-30 and many could possibly relate to the lyrics, but I also think it would appeal to some younger male audiences as again it is a female singer who they may find attractive.
My music video will mainly be shot at night-time at different locations, and I may also use green screen to get some close up shots of the main singer. I will be using only one person to perform the song, but will be using others to be dancing in the background. The song’s lyrics are about a girl trying to get over an ex boyfriend, by going out with her friends and having a good time, so I am going to try and portray this as best as I can in my own music video, by shooting up London with a group of people going out, and I may rent a hotel room for a day to do some shots of the girls getting ready together. I will also be using green screen by either creating background behind the performer, or to have lyrics on the screen when the chorus comes on.
I am planning to shoot at places in London like Hyde Park and Regents Park, at night-time, so will be bringing lights to help light the performer and surroundings well. It’s going to have a narrative of the main singer getting ready to go out, then following her on her journeys when out and about, having a good night.
I am going to be using props and different costumes to make my music video more interesting, things like focusing on a pair of shoes as this lyrics mention this a lot, and fitting the narrative with the song lyrics and I aim to use a variety of different shots and camera edits, like I may use some extreme close ups of the performers face, then use a long shot to show everyone else in the background.
To avoid any unnecessary complications I will create a storyboard and follow a plan of each different shot for my music video, as I believe I will work better with it being planned rather than shooting it all in one, I will also make a timetable as I will need to be travelling into London to shoot some of it, so by making sure I have enough time to do everything this will ensure it gets done properly. I also may have problems as shooting in London is a very public and busy place, but at night-time the parks shouldn’t be too busy, or I will have to plan my timings differently and work around this.
I would aim for my music video to appear on music channels like MTV, VIVA, KISS, The box, 4music ect, and for it to go viral on YouTube and through social networks, so that it can be seen by a even bigger audience and create more awareness for the singer.

Location Recce Draft

Hotel Room- I would like to shoot some scenes in a hotel room/bedroom because it would be really effective for the narrative of the song,

Siena- Italy- I will have the chance to go to Italy frequently so did think about shooting here, I will probably not as it wouldnt really fit with my idea and would be hard to get all the equipment over.

Camden Town - I have also thought about shooting at Camden Town because its an iconic place in London and has some really cool streets/shops that would look good to shoot.

Carnaby Street- I would like to shoot here as the streets are really pretty and would look cool on screen, I imagine shooting the singer walking through these streets, I am aiming to do most of my scenes at night as the song is focused on night time, so will bring lights with me.

Hyde Park- I would like to shoot here because its a really pretty place, by the river would be the most ideal spot to shoot, It would be at nightime like this picture, as I think with all the lights on it would look really pretty, If I left shooting till near christmas, I could shoot in Winter Wonderland which is held in hyde park which would look really good.

Oxford Street- I would possibly like to shoot here because its such a iconic place in London and would be really busy and exciting, the only problem would be the amount of people and this could interfer with the scenes so I would maybe have to think about going somewhere quieter, or could involve the people walking past.

Regents Park- I would like to shoot here because its got some great places which would look effective and would fit with the song, its massive too so would give me a lot of opportunity and space.

Song Lyric Analysis

Holiday Diary!

Ciao! I thought I'd do this post nearer the end of the summer as I can reflect on what I've done and the ideas that have built up throughout my holidays.
I have been working on the songs a lot, analyzing each potential one I want to use and picturing which would be the best, and will post my song lyric analysis on my blog of the chosen song shortly.
I also have been thinking about location a lot, I'm really keen to shoot at Regents Park as I went there to go to London Zoo this summer, and it has some really nice places which would look good! I would also potentially like to do some shots in a bedroom, so might even rent a hotel room one day to get some shots, and this will fit in with the story of the song.
I went to Italy a few days ago, and took some pictures of some streets and views that would of looked really good in my music video, although it probably wouldn't fit in with the tone and genre of the song, I may still put them up in my location recce.
I've enjoyed planning my music video over the summer and now just need to work out equipment, times and make sure all my ideas are clear to start working on it back at school, I look foward to doing so!
